Google Art Project

Screen shot 2011-02-02 at 16.02.15

A truly mind blowing site that you can easily spend a whole afternoon on, Google Art Project takes you on a  virtual tour of some of the great museums collections of the world. You have the option to view individual works of art in detail, which before was only possible if you where there in the museum with a magnifying glass. I have just been on a virtual tour of the Palace of Versailles and felt like I had been miraculously transported to there. Only a visit to the museum itself would give a comparable intimacy to the setting and the works of art.

In Almost Every picture #9

The next exhibition at KK Outlet will be In Almost Every Picture #9, the latest of Erik Kessels photo stories made up of found, discarded photographs, never intended for public viewing. This particular book deals with a family’s attempts at taking photographs of one of their family members, a very black dog. The private view is on the 3 Feb. and the exhibition runs until the 27 February, 2011.

iphone translator – muy bueno

Finally – I have found a stand alone, legitimate reason to purchase an iphone. I have always thought they were essentially toys. Not that this is a bad thing, toys are great but I always had this nagging feeling that that I needed a better reason than Tetris or Steppin to have one. Until now I have had to convince myself that the Dog Whistler was just about enough (if my dog had ever come when I had used it). Anyway – now I have it. A translator for really really lazy people (like me). It currently only works for English-Spanish and vice versa but there are more languages to come. It is genuinely amazing.

A bit expensive (at £5 each way), the most I have ever spent on an app – completely worth it, even if the only thing that I done with it so far is to translate pages out of Wired and warning signs on tobacco packets for my friends while in the pub.

N.B. Actually, both Tetris and Steppin are reasons alone to get an iphone – the translator is still great though
